It's in the family.
Matt picked up his first notch trowel when he was just a young lad - both his father and grandfather being tilers, he would assist around the home or on-site whenever they needed a keen young labourer (and whenever he needed some extra pocket money!)
Through this inherited introduction to tiling, he learned the tricks of the trade and began 'earning his stripes' from a young age.
After graduating high school where he was awarded the honour of being named the top student in his class for Art & Design, Matt went on to apprentice under his father Brian Funnéll (who was also a professional artist), at the age of 18.

Ever since then (now in his mid-30's) Matt has been expanding his knowledge, honing his skills and working at his craft - in Australia and abroad.
After more than 15 years in the tiling trade, Matt has continued to evolve in his multiple skill sets of Art, Design and Tiling, combining them to create a new-school 'artisan' ethos in the way he works.
Through his history, experience and passion, it is Matt's instinctual obsession to push the creative envelope, thinking of ways in which he can help his clients' get the most out of their space.
